Training, Relaxing, Waiting

I had my training the other day for Macy's. It definitely was not what I was expecting. I sat in a little room with three different working stations set up where you could practice going through sales transactions. There was the cash register, check machine, debit/credit machine and a scanner with a book of barcodes. After watching training videos for about an hour I actually got to practice. It's not as easy as it looks. The stupid scanner kepts double scanning barcodes because they were all placed right next to eachother in the book and I swear if I had to start over one more time, I was going to tear my hair out of my head. I ended up being at training for almost 9 hours. By the end of the day I felt like I never wanted to be on a computer again. Obviously that didn't last. But seriously.. 8 hours of instructional videos with cheesy actors was ridiculous. Somewhere close to the middle of those 8 hours, I got to take a 45 minute break. Let me just say that it would have been a lot better if I actually knew people there and wasn't spending those 45 minutes sitting on the fountain outside of Macy's eating a pretzel alone. So depressing. I really hope I meet people that I can sit with on my breaks so it isn't so lonely. Besides, sitting alone at the mall seems to attract all the creepers. So not okay. Anyway, I've just been waiting for my manager, Jamie, to get back from vacation so I can be put on the schedule and actually do some working.

I wish I could say that i've been doing all sorts of fun stuff this week, but that would be a lie. I've just been hanging out with my boyfriend a bit and relaxing at home. Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with him, but I want to do other things too. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow though because I'm going out to dinner with him (which we rarely do) then afterwards Amanda is staying over. We're going to continue looking at apartments and planning out how we want everything to look, which I love doing. :) She has more interviews lined up so hopefully soon we'll have enough saved up to move out.

Officially an employee at Macy's

I got the call!!! I am now officially an employee at Macy's! I am so excited :) I have an 8 hour training on Tuesday, from 11-7. I can't wait. After my training, I can take any extra shifts throughout the whole store and then will start in the women's shoe department after that. I can't wait to start work and finally make some money. Amanda has her interview tomorrow so if she gets it (which I know she will) then we can start saving to move out!!

After I got the call yesterday, I had a day with my family that I barely get to see. It was so great getting to burst in the door and tell them the great news and see how proud they all were of me. We all visited for a few hours, had a great dinner and then picked a ton of rasberries from my grandmas' garden. I love getting to spend quality time with the side of the family that I actually get along with. All in all, yesterday was a great day and I can't wait to have more amazing days like that during the rest of the summer.

Interview at Macy's

I was so nervous this morning just waiting for it to be time to go to my interview. I woke up at 8 and my interview wasn't until 12, so those four hours were torture. Luckily I was having a pretty good hair and makeup day and had a cute outfit to wear which boosted my self confidence a little. I wore a dark, vibrant blue flowy top from Forever21 tucked into a black pencil skirt with flats. I love the feeling of dressing up all proffesional so I hope I get the job and can do that more often.

I got to my interview 15 minutes early. I'm definitely glad that I did because I had a questionare to fill out beforehand that was more difficult to fill out than I expected. What brightens up my life when i'm in a bad mood? When was a time that I felt uncomfortable and how did I overcome it? When I was answering the questions I felt like I was going to run out of time but then I finished all the questions and just sat there waiting and waiting and waiting. Time seemed to be going by so slow and I just wanted to get it over with. I was happy when the woman from human resources came out and wasn't so scary at all. She was so friendly and all my nerves seemed to go away. During the interview she asked me about 10 questions. I can't remember all of them but none were so hard that I didn't have a good answer. Finally she said "Okay that was the last question, do you have any for me?" I was so relieved. I was done. I asked her what her favorite part about working at Macy's is and she seemed to really enjoy answering that question. She told me she's worked there for 18 years and how much she loves watching her employees grow and improve. She had a huge smile on her face as she was talking about it, which made me happy that Macy's must have a pretty good work environment. After that she gave me a big smile and said that she thought I would be perfect for a job in the young men's department but it's full time and she told me she wanted to "put me in a permanent position, not just one for the summer." That was amazing to hear! I must have done pretty well! She went on to say that my answers were great. (I sure hope so since Amanda and I prepared so much for the interview). She told me that woman's shoes had a few open positions for part time and called in the manager to have my second interview right on the spot! When the woman came in, she was so friendly and explained the duties of the position and said that she thinks I would be great and that she would call me tomorrow! Fingers crossed! I'm sure that Amanda's interviews will go great too and hopefully we'll both get the job. :)

After my interview was all over I got to spend the day with my boyfriend, Nolan, before he went to work. We watched movies for a few hours and just relaxed. It was so nice not to be stressed over getting the job or not, atleast for a few hours. I've been trying to keep my mind off of it though. When I got home I decided I would look up a new recipe on Pinterest to cook for dinner. I decided to make baked garlic chicken which was DELICIOUS. It was chicken breast with a garlic/ brown sugar sauce baked in the oven until crispy on top. I made white rice cooked in chicken broth instead of water to go with it and (not trying to toot my own horn) but.... TOOT TOOT! I am a good cook. :)

It's been a long day and I have to get up early tomorrow so I think it's abut time to stop writing, enjoy a movie with some ice cream and get some sleep. Hopefully I wake up tomorrow and get a call that i've been hired. Not getting my hopes up though!

Interview, Beach, Best Friend

I am so ready to take responsibility and finally get out on my own.. well, with my best friend Amanda. We just graduated high school and I am getting ready to go to college. We've both been applying like crazy for everywhere that we could think of and it just so happens that we both got an interview for Macy's. I'm really hoping that we both get it so we can get this whole moving out thing started. We've already looked at apartments and found just the right one. I'm so ready to finally have some freedom and have the great feeling of being independent.

But today we tried to put the stress of the interview to the back of our minds and enjoyed a relxing day at the beach :) Some fun in the sun was definitely what we needed. I realized how nice it will be having her around all the time to have girl talk and have someone to vent to whenever I need it.

Today was such a great day. Now there's only two more days until my interview. Wish me luck!
